Letter to the Editor National Post re Parliamentary Debate on Abortion

Dear Editor:
There is always a need to examine data and debate conclusions on any medical matter. Since induced abortions are performed by medical staff, in medical facilities and paid for by funds designated for medical treatments, it is a medical matter. It needs discussion now more than ever because the accumulating evidence of new research and because as a medical matter it was not properly discussed in the beginning. Unless the oppenents of debate are prepared to assert that abortion is a right that can be imposed on physicians and tax payer whether or not it is good for women, they must agree to discuss research. The best evidence to date rearly indicates that abortion only harms women. And It must be remembered that the onus of proof lies with those who perform and support any unproven remedy to show it is indicated, beneficial, without major harms, done in good faith etc.

Sincerly,

Philip G. Ney, MD
